Since some days Basel and Schaffhausen are not only connected through the international cycle route along the Rhine, upriver to the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The city on the Rhine now also has a skate park with a mini ramp and street obstacles for skateboarders.

The 24th of August 2011 was the day of ignition. The town of Schaffhausen gave Vertical Technik Ltd from Frenkendorf the order to produce new skateboarding facilities and to assemble them in a workshop with the young people. In collaboration with Stefan Brülisauer a concept was worked out which contained customer-specific systems that are tailored to the needs of the users. Among some street modules a 1 m high mini ramp with maintenance free HPL riding surface was installed. A 1.5 m high bank, a rail slide bar, a manual pad and two different stone ledges made of Nero Assoluto granite stone were also installed under the bridge.

Now there is a small and exquisite public skate park right on the banks of the Rhine, at the Mühlenstrasse in 8200 Schaffhausen, under access road to the freeway E41. Many thanks go to Mr. Bruderhofer and the employees of the city for their active support and cooperation, the investment of Stefan Brülisauer of the Interest Group N4 Schaffhausen for its preparatory planning work, the help of about 12 young skaters, the Work4Donuts Skateshop from Schaffhausen and the help of Roman Jeker for the management of the Workshops and the assembly.

The existing skate park did not meet the requirements of the skaters anymore. Vertical Technik Ltd. has been asked to make a rideable space of this small skatepark. Small changes to the site and new facilities have been implemented. A line with a quarterpipe, a pandora box with ledge, a bank, as well as a wheelie table and rail slide bar have been installed. The existing miniramp was moved by crane to make room. The skatepark is located in a hairpin curve on the main street in the village of Jongny.

The second edition of the summer docks on the peninsula Malraux of the city of Strasbourg was a success! The weather was perfect. The 9 m wide spine mini ramp with extension from Vertical was used by many young people and was very much appreciated. On the program were: Sand, sun umbrellas, deck chairs, entertainment, skate ramp, beach volleyball field and a lot of fun for teenagers, kids and families.

In cooperation with local associations the summer docks offered play areas, sports area and a relaxation area with books and magazines. The program included a science week with the association “les petits débrouillards”, a sports and event week, an artistic weeks with the association “arachnima”, a musical week with the association “sound'sitiv”, one week of "glisse urbaine" with the association “nouvelle ligne”, a game week with the "maison des jeux", a circus week “graine de cirque” and a final week "live on docks" with live concerts.

The assembly was carried out on 20.06.2011 and the opening took place on 6 July 2011. The contract was awarded to Vertical Technik Ltd because the company proposed best equipment for the existing budget. In addition to a 1.7 m high bank and a 1.5 m high quarterpipe a wheelie table and two cast-in Railslides rods were mounted. The central module is a new Pandora box with a flat rail and with a 2.5 m long platform. The installations were enclosed with galvanized steel sheets. The riding surface is maintenance free HPL and perfect for skateboarding, BMX riding and In-Line skating.

The new skate park is located on the sports field in Guemligen (Muri) near Bern. It is administrated through the centre for children and youth affairs www.guemu.ch. The initiative for the renovation was taken in hand from the sports commission Muri. On 28 May 2011 the skateboard street contest à la Thrasher was held in Macon. For this occasion some new street modules were manufactured by Vertical Technik Ltd. The street platform with stairs, bank, handrail and ledge was designed mobile. The Streetspine is a premiere of Vertical. It is equipped with a maintenance free HPL riding surface. The skaters loved this obstacle from the beginning. The stone ledge made of black granite was also very popular.

The contest was divided into the categories under 16 and over 16 years. Tricks over the stairs, on the rail on the ledge and on the Streetspine were judged. For any successful trick there was cash paid on site. A total of 1000 € were distributed to the riders. The best tricks for the over 16-year-old were made by Nabil Slimani (backside flip over the stairs) and Patrick Houssard (krooked grind, tailslide, frontside boardslide). The spectators were astonished about the 360 flip by Alex and the giant ollies over the stairs by Yohann.

For the under 16-year-old the street platform was a little bit high, but that stopped Arno Wagner not to do a kick flip over the stairs. Arno is 15 years old. For the best trick on the Streetspine the categories were mixed.

Vertical Technik Ltd has created a new skate park with concrete prefabricated elements from SkateStone in Lugano beneath the existing bowl skate park. The design was created by Yari Copt, boss of the Warriors http://www.warriorsskateboards.com skate team. The skate park was ordered in early February 2011 and only 4 months later, the skate park was ready to shred. It is a highlight of the German company Hofmann GmbH in Elsenfeld, the manufacturer of the concrete elements. A huge compliment goes also to the team in the manufacturing unit and the set up crew who worked with full dedication.

As the architect Armando Dorici confirmed the quality of the elements is of the finest. The concrete quality is C55/67 for all concrete elements. This means that there will be no cracks in the elements and give therefore no maintenance costs. The joints between the elements were filled with a special resin which gave an absolutely homogeneous surface. When skating, no difference between the elements is appreciable.

Instead of allowing asphalt between the elements, 15 cm thick concrete slabs were cast on site, so that there were no transitional plates required in metal. This improves the ride quality and identified the site design. With this project Vertical Technik Ltd makes real concurrence to the existing skate park builders in the market, as the quality of prefabricated elements is much higher than that of the on-site poured concrete.

Also regarding the duration of the project the prefab method gives more security as the weather plays less a role. The installation time is significantly lower, in Lugano, all elements have been set up in 8 working days! Thus, the whole project is easier to calculate and keep the costs under control. There are also no restrictions in terms of design as all wishes from the designer Yari Copt could be taken in consideration.

Only a year after the founding of the club “Skate Park Kerzers” the skate park could be fitted with the first elements! Thanks to the great commitment of the young skaters, the youth commission JUKO, engaged parents and the regional youth worker Cosima Oesch on 20iest of April 2011 a pyramid and a quarterpipe could be mounted.

The skaters have helped under the leadership of Roman Jeker of Vertical Technik Ltd to assemble the installations. Beforehand, they have manufactures railslide bars bars on their own according to the plans of Vertical. Additional elements will soon come to the park to complete it.

The project was launched in 2009. Previously committed young skaters had collected signatures and wrote a letter to the administration of Kerzers. The choice fell on systems with HPL riding surface. The feedbacks from the skaters, as always, are very positive. The Skate Park is located under the highway bridge near the maintenance depot of Kerzers.
